Zulu Nyala Heritage Hotel

Originally built in the 1940's at the famous watering hole along the Lourenco Marques (Maputo) route, this gracious old hotel was purchased and then restored to its former colonial grandeur. The new accommodation facilities are themed to highlight Zululand's own cultural development.

Guests can take a time out between their African adventures to relax next to the sparkling pool or in one of the bars or entertainment areas. Sundowners are a fine part of old colonial tradition that really should be observed. The Zulu Nyala Heritage Hotel also has a small library, as well as a beautifully stocked curio shop for your browsing pleasure. The outdoor boma can seat 180 people and an alfresco dining area is available as well as a TV and games lounge. Be sure to keep an eye out for the impala, nyala, warthog, zebra, blesbok and Zulu nguni cattle that roam freely on the property.

Adjacent to the hotel is the fascinating Zulu Cultural Village, where the residents still live and practice Zulu traditions as their ancestors did a hundred years ago. A visit will expose you to traditional Zulu beer and spear making; sangomas who can read your future in the bones they throw; the Zulu stick fighting; bead and basket making and the high-kicking, rhythmic Zulu dancing.

Zulu Nyala Heritage Hotel is ideally situated for access to many 'heritage' and conservation sites in the region, which guests may explore privately. Sites include the greater St Lucia Estuary, Hluhluwe, Umfolozi and Mkuzi Game Reserves, Sodwana Bay and various Zulu cultural villages.
