De Oude Herberg Guest HouseTulbagh, Western Cape, South Africa Bed and Breakfast from R 565 | R 565 |
Tulbagh is situated in a beautiful secluded valley surrounded by the Winterhoek, Witzenberg and Saronsberg mountains. The Tulbagh Valley is at the western end of the famous Route 62, which meanders through the wineland areas of the Western Cape and Karoo.
De Oude Herberg Guest House is situated in Church Street and has been providing bed and breakfast accommodation since 1885. Translated from Afrikaans as 'The Old Inn', De Oude Herberg Guest House has, over the years, won several awards and accolades. These include winning the prestigious AA Travel Accommodation Award in the Heritage Accommodation category, two years in succession.
In 1969 an earthquake resulted in the collapse of all the historic buildings in Church Street. These buildings were rebuilt in the Cape Dutch style, creating 32 national monuments, all in one street; Tulbagh became famous ?overnight'.
Tulbagh is a place to come to and enjoy the beautiful countryside and magnificent scenery; to take gentle walks, hike up the mountains, horse ride through the valley and take trips to vineyards, fruit and olive farms. Visitors are welcome at most farms to taste their produce and purchase their products.
In the town there are museums, gift and antique shops, art galleries and various restaurants to suit all tastes. In the immediate vicinity, we have at least 16 wine cellars and estates; they include well-known farms such as Twee Jonge Gezellen, Saronsberg, Lemberg, Rijk's and Waverley Hills.
