Beautiful setting by

We love the Transkei and Luputhana is enchanting in its off-the-beaten-track setting. There were fireflies in the camp at night and the breaking waves made for lovely photographs. The camp need some TLC. There is one person maintaining it and we think he needs some help. A cleaner for the communal kitchen would make for a more comfortable stay. We stayed for seven nights and also had to empty our own bathroom bins. It was advertised that there would be some drinking water in the form of rainwater, but we discovered that all the water came from the stream next to the camp. This is very dangerous as we were travelling with babies and the camp is extremely remote if someone fell ill and we would need medical care. One of our group was still on his way and bought us some bottled water. One of the adults that did consume the tap water did get a very upset stomach. This is a wonderful place to visit but make sure you come prepared.

Waterfall Bluff by

Everything was great apart from the fact that there was no electricity, and we were not informed before we arrived that they had no electricity, and were not going to have electricity while we were there. Being the only people in the camp it would have been nice to have a light or two....

Disappointment at Luputhana camp by

Requires plenty of improvement entrance to bathroom area is impractical. No storage place for clothes etc. The fridge does not work the chest freezer hardly keeps the food cold, no electricity or solar panel power, had to sit in the dark at night. Lucky was an excellent host and was very embarrassed to notify us that there was no power, According to him the power had been off for a month. We were extremely annoyed as we had paid in full one month prior to our arrival and had received no notification of the situation! if we had known we would have been prepared for this scenario!! As we were the only guests there, we felt unsafe in the dark surroundings, we therefore left a day early. We feel that the Management leaves plenty to be desired. We would not recommend this camp as all the scenery is accessible from Mbotyi lodge. At Mtentu lodge we paid the same price and this included 3 excellent meals per person per day. Lucky the manager went out of his way to make us comfortable even went over the river to charge our phones and cameras at some cottage.
