Eldoret Wagon Hotel

Eldoret in 1912 was a real pioneer town in which the first bank was built around the safe because once it dropped off the wagon, ferrying to the site, it proved too heavy to move again. Most descendants of the original settler families left in the sixties, but Eldoret still displays the hard working settler ethic on which it was founded and combined with the modern African entrepreneurial spirit, gives impetus to its fast paced development.

Eldoret Wagon Hotel, which was previously Wagon Wheel Hotel, is the first hotel in the region which began as a private member club for senior railways staff. Its dining room takes an image of an elongated railway wagon with a looped roof and is still charmingly rustic. The new wings offer modern facilities associated with modern hotels.
