Epupa Camp

Epupa, Kunene, Namibia
Caravan Park & Camping Sites from R 160

Epupa Camp consists of nine luxury Safari-style Tents erected on stone platforms, each with two single beds and an en-suite bathroom. All of the tents have electricity and mosquito netting and an outside, shaded balcony overlooking the tranquil Kunene River. Large makalani palms overhead provide welcome shade from the midday sun. A minimum stay of two nights, ideally three, is recommended to fully benefit from everything the Epupa area has to offer.

The adjacent dining room and lounge area also face the Kunene River, along with a lounging pool for cooling down from the midday heat or enjoying a glass of sparkling wine while watching the sun set.

Our five exclusive campsites, under huge ana and makalani trees, allow for a camping in a secluded, shady and quiet corner along the Kunene River. Our campsites combine the use of local material with pleasing attention to detail to allow for a most memorable stay in Namibia.

Each campsite has a river view and has private ablution facilities, consisting of a shower with warm and cold water, flush toilets and two hand basins, a braai area, and a sink for dishes. The campsites are spacious to easily allow a group of ten guests with five vehicles with off-road trailers or caravans. Campers are ensured of falling asleep to the sounds of only the rapids of the Kunene River, nocturnal animals and birds. Camping guests are welcome to use the Epupa Camp facilities. Meals and activities can be booked with the camp management upon arrival. The local community sells firewood at the campsite and also offers a laundry service. Our staff can assist you to negotiate this with the community.

Our campsite is situated about 1 km, an easy walk, from the Epupa Falls. You can meander along the river bank or through the village. Enquire at check-in about self-hiking trails and guided trails. Epupa Camp offers a wide range of activities that give you a rare opportunity to explore this fascinating corner of the world, including visits to a Himba settlement, sundowner sunset drives, rafting, bird-watching boat trips, and visits to Epupa Falls.

Excellent in all respects by

Epupa Camp, away from the crowds, is the best camping spot at Epupa Falls. The attention from staff to every aspect of our stay contributed to a wonderful experience.

Great stay by

We stayed here in December 2015. It was fantastic to camp right on the river bank. We only stayed one night but wish it was longer Nice open air bathrooms with a donkey which was started for us in the morning and evening. Loved it!

Wonderful location by

We stayed at Epupa Camp Campsite for two nights in April 2017. The campsite is located right next to the Kunene and is very beautiful.Sitting underneath the palmtrees and listening to the river flowing was a unique experience. The open air bathroom and shower were clean, but could have been looked after a little better.

Remote accomodation by

Take everything with you as a one way drive to Epupa camp is 3 to 3 and a half hours on a gravel road. The distance from Opuwo is 180 kilometres with cattle, goats, donkeys wildlife on the roads so you have to keep slowing down to go through ditches and over dry river beds. Can be done in a normal car but 4x4 is more appropriate. The reception and showing of accomodation was quick and pleasant. The tents are quite comfortable if camping is your thing. If not then look for other accomodation. The staff were very helpful. We could get hot water for coffee from them. If we knew we could even have had our water kept cold in their refrigerator. Their is wi-fi available in an area neat reception and charge power sockets for cell phones. We were also offered tours to cultural village, to look for crocodiles and to view falls from the hill overlooking falls at a price which I understand is job creation for the locals but that is more for the overseas tourist with their Dollars and Euros. For us locals we do it ourselves because its too costly.

Disappointed by

We were unfortunately not able to take up our booking as the Oiva River was flooded and more rain was predicted. If we crossed this river we believe there were another 2 rivers to ford before we reached Epupa. No communication from Epupa has been forthcoming wrt a refund as our failure to take up the accommodation was beyond our control. All in all very disappointing from this aspect. The following is not a true reflection of the resort as there is no place for n/a.

The falls by

Every thing very good. The staff were helpfull and freinly
