Foster's ManorOudtshoorn, Western Cape, South Africa Guest House from R 295 (family units from R 1,400) | R 295 |
Experience the days gone by of ostrich feathers and feather palaces at Foster's Manor; we are 3 Star graded and offer the embodiment of the era when the ostrich and its feathers reigned supreme in the Little Karoo. Foster's Manor was the only place to be established as a charming B&B and was declared a national monument in 1974 when it was restored to its former glory.
The manor has eight rooms, the character of which is a blend of the old and new. Every room has an en-suite bathroom where one can relax in a French slipper bath. You can also enjoy a drink while watching TV. A stay in the manor's Honeymoon Suite will be the crowning glory of your honeymoon. The spacious interiors have been individually furnished with authentic collector's pieces from the early 1900s. All rooms are fitted with minibars, facilities for making coffee and tea, and TVs. Guests can also roam the ground floor which is decorated with photo reproductions of the feather boom era.
The Great British sandstone architect, Charles Bullock, was the creator of the building; his original plans and documents are displayed in the breakfast room of the manor. J.Foster, a local attorney, instructed Bullock to design a double-storey mansion for him. Foster called this mansion 'Rus in Urbe', formally known as Foster's Folly and later renamed Foster's Manor. We, Agnes and Kahreema, hope that we will have the pleasure of making your acquaintance real soon.
