Fynbos Retreat

The picturesque Fynbos Retreat is tucked away in the fynbos-clad hills between the villages of Stanford and Gansbaai in the Western Cape region of South Africa, approximately two hours from Cape Town. The property forms part of the magnificent 2,500-hectare Grootbos Nature Reserve and offers two fully furnished houses overlooking large dams and surrounded by spectacular natural beauty.

Fynbos Retreat is the perfect getaway for hiking, mountain biking, bird-watching, swimming or simply relaxing and enjoying the peace and tranquility of this magnificent valley in the Overberg.

The accommodation consists of two fully equipped houses, providing a wonderful base from which to explore the surrounding natural paradise. Arum Lily House can sleep a maximum of 12 guests and includes barbecue facilities, a pizza oven, a large living room with a fireplace, a fully equipped kitchen, dining room, and four bedrooms.

Fountain Bush Cottage features a large open-plan kitchen and lounge with a cosy fireplace, a balcony overlooking the water, barbecue area, and three bedrooms. Pre-booked catering is also available if required. Fifty pieces of wood per day are included in accommodation rates and extra wood is available for purchase if required.

Fynbos Retreat is the perfect getaway for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. The property is home to a remarkable diversity of fynbos including limestone, dune strandveld, sandstone fynbos, wetland, milkwood and afromontane forest, and many rare and endangered plant species have been recorded on the property. For bird-lovers, the surrounding hills and valleys are home to over 100 bird species.

Three well-marked, circular hiking trails have been laid out on the property, which are ideal for walking or trail running. In addition, a large dam is fed by a natural spring in the milkwood forest at the base of the limestone cliffs. The dam, which is great for swimming, has a jetty and a sandy beach for easy access and exit.

Activities and attractions in the surrounding area include great white shark experiences, whale-watching, sundowner boat cruises, quad bike nature trails, Grootbos Nature Reserve, Klein Rivier Cheese Factory, and Cape Agulhas.
