Lodge from R 430 to R 480 (family units from R 5,500)
R 430
Situated within a secluded valley of some 1 300ha just east of Waterval Onder off the Elands Valley of Mpumalanga, the lodge offers a uniquely exclusive getaway for up to 20 guests. Ten private en-suite bedroom units are accessed via walkways that meander through the 300-year old Bakoni ruins around which the lodge was built. All ten bedrooms are furnished to the same standard and have similar proportions, occupying some 60m² of bedroom, dressing room, bathroom, outdoor shower and veranda. All have fire places, most having fires in the bathrooms too. All rooms have private verandas and all rooms have either mountain, river or bush views. The twin outdoor showers have remained a highlight since the lodge was built in the last century - 1999. The lodge, with its numerous verandas occupies some 900 m² of space. A large domestically orientated kitchen is an obvious central gathering area. An undercover braai area on the adjoining covered veranda too encourages social gatherings. The open plan lounge, dining room and bar each have a fireplace and sliding doors. Red wine - or freshly brewed cappuccinos - accompanied by crackling wood fires are as synonymous with winter as the sounds of the river and riverine bird life are with summer. Lodge residents have exclusive use of the estate. There are numerous maintained trails ? and many more to be forged ? over the 1300ha estate. The estate is safe to explore on foot or bike. Heysbrook is rich in its diverse fauna, flora, natural and human history. Numerous stone kraals (the Bakoni, who later became the Swazi's when they were persecuted by dominant tribes) of some 800-year-old settlements can be found. There is a lot of Boer War history in our valley and several block houses used as vantage/signalling points from this war. Big skies, rolling vistas and solitude await you.
