Karkloof Rocky Lodge is located in the forested, evergreen foothills of the Gilboa Mountains. It offers a self-catering, free-standing cottage that consists of three bedrooms.
The rooms offer either a double bed in the one room and two single beds in the other rooms. They share the use of a bathroom with a bath and a shower. We supply linen, towels and toilet paper. The kitchen is equipped with an electric stove, a kettle, a toaster, a microwave, pots, pans and cutlery and crockery, and guests can enjoy their meals at the dining table. The lounge is comfortably furnished and is equipped with a cosy fireplace; it opens out onto the wooden deck with fabulous views of the Gilboa Mountains. We provide wood and the unit does not have a TV, Internet or telephone. A cleaning service is available on request.
Guests can visit the Karkloof Conservation Centre down the road for birdwatching and there are various activities in the area. Guests can embark on Karkloof Canopy Tours, an annual tube race down the Karkloof River or visit the Karkloof Falls, which is a great place for picnics and a swim in the river. The Umngeni Nature Reserve offers rock climbing, hiking, picnics and game viewing, while the Natal Midlands is a historical site with its Anglo-Boer war history, battlefields and a museum at Howick.
