Kilamawingu is a luxurious four-level oceanfront house that watches over the Indian Ocean from the top of one of Shela's steepest slopes. Have fun exploring the funky design that extends from the swimming pool through the house to the beautiful garden. Enjoy eating, drinking, resting or chatting by the pool, in the garden, on one of the balconies, in one of the barazas, or under one of the pergolas. Kilamawingu is an idyllic place to stay.
This luxury retreat offers healthy doses of charm and decadent elegance, as well as Indian fabrics that add bold infusions of colour. The door is from a sixteenth century palace, while the Mediterranenesque poolside pergola is designed to host many guests for an al fresco dining experience. There is also a rooftop baraza to retreat to in the evenings for drinks.
Kilamawingu is a six-bedroom house, sleeping between eight and 12 guests comfortably, and all of the rooms are en-suite and equipped with air-conditioning. The corner master bedroom opens on two sides to capture breezes coming off the channel and the bed was made by local Swahili artisans, as were most of the house's pieces.
The house boasts one of Shela's most spectacular views and possesses one of the island's finest swimming pools. Enhancing its privacy and views, the large pool was fitted into a portion of the lot 30 feet above the activity of the adjacent beach.
