Kisimani HouseShela, Lamu County, Kenya Guest House (family units from R 4,253) | R 4,253 |
Home in the sweet fragrant village of Shela, the Kisimani House is one of kind with its original architecture still in place. Along with ornate interiors, massive stone walls, carved archways and sea views, it in itself is an experience.
Kisimani in Swahili means ?the House of the Well', and the house to this day relies on its own water source. Central courtyards connect the beautiful maze of rooms, with the house comprising of four levels. Accommodation is ideal for two families with children or four couples, and conveniently if the house is not already occupied, single travelers or a couple can share the house on a bed and breakfast basis.
The house comes with an excellent cook and a steward butler, who both speak English. From the kitchen Karissa the Chef emerges with seafood and meals as fresh as you have ever tasted. He will prepare breakfast, lunch and dinner; either unguided or to your specific preferences.
Fred Kahindi is your discrete butler, he brings you tea in the morning, sees to the beds, the laundry, the shopping, fixes drinks and lowers the nets before bedtime. Let Karissa know of any dietary preferences and give him enough cash to shop for your group. Bring your own spirits, wines, cheeses and bacon as these are not available in the village.
Life on the island is like no other, it moves slowly at a walking pace or donkey ride, for there are no vehicles on the island. Kisimani House is located on the seaward fringe of Shela and is a mere five minute walk from the beach. This quiet little fishing village is a 40 minute walk from Lamu town and is the point where the mighty beaches commence.
