Kwam eMakana

Grahamstown, Eastern Cape, South Africa
Self-catering from R 200 (family units from R 800)

The Kwam e-Makana project was the brainchild of former Premier of the Eastern Cape, Mrs Nosimo Balindlela. This was an attempt on her part, to increase the tourism spend in disadvantaged areas by having Eastern Cape Government employees stay in designated houses when they travelled for business purposes. Today, after ten years experience and many formal training courses, 34 women proudly open their homes to visitors requiring accommodation in Grahamstown and guests have the guarantee to be welcomed with the warmest hospitality.

For international tourists it will be a true cultural experience and local travellers will just feel at home.

All homestays are in the neighbourhood of the Joza location and display their Kwam signage for easy recognition. Please specify your needs when you make an inquiry, the hostesses will then suggest the most suitable homestay for you to make your stay the best ever.

Fast gaining in popularity, this small part of the world offers visitors easy access to the unspoilt beaches of the Sunshine Coast and premier game reserves in a malaria - and bilharzia-free environment. View the Big 5, enjoy spectacularly rugged scenery, immerse yourself in our rich history and enjoy the warm hospitality.
