MACABELEL LODGE REVIEWS (80 %) Restful weekend away by Gavin Groenmeyer, South Africa 23 March 2015 Spent a lovely weekend at the lodge. House has everything you would need. Clean and Surprisingly no insects.
The fishing was great and there was plenty of Braai facilities to enjoy as well. You definitely need a soft roader at the very least to get to the lodge due to the deep Jeep tracks requiring good ground clearance. You also need to make sure you bring all the groceries you need with you as a trip into town takes almost 2 hours return on gravel roads.
All in all, a fantastic piece of paradise if you looking to get away from it all. I would definitely recommend.

Die natuur is pragtig en die stap op met die rivier is 'n moet. Jy het wel 'n 4x4 nodig maar ek sal die ervaring enige tyd aanbeveel. the clear fresh air by Elizabeth Pienaar 09 October 2017 This is a lovely, clean and well appointed place, great for larger groups. It's perfectly located - remote and private but still close enough to wander in to Dullstroom town for a lunch or dinner.
We love off the grid. Only comment is that a bit of extra petrol for the generator , and possibly a torch, would be handy.
Will return! Weekend for two by Randall Hopley 28 November 2017 I fully enjoyed the weekend there. The facilities are nice and open and the fire place a definite winner.
The owners are friendly and when I experienced battery issues they went well out of their way to go buy a new one for me on a Saturday afternoon and helped sorting out the problems the Sunday morning. I have never experienced this kind of helpfulness and are very thankful.
The roads to the place are a challenge, but no 4x4 driving skill's are required only a higher clearance vehicle. It will still take you 40 minutes to Dullstroom from the house.
No power and working with the generator is irritating and when I could not get the thing going the Saturday, we stayed without power. A solar power back up system does keep the lights on at night, but there is no plugs in the house. No cell phone reception at all.
If you want a still weekend, then this will work for you. A little piece of Heaven by Steven Heinen 06 March 2018 We stayed at the Macabelel Lodge for 3 nights. It was absolutely amazing. Secluded (4km from the farm house) and private. The owners were very kind and accommodating. I would give this place 6 stars if I could. What an amazing weekend. Thank you O'grady's. We also met with the owner who showed us around a bit, lovely and kind gentleman. The water from the stream is so clean you can easily see 2m deep, and drink from the water it is ice cold and delicious.
