Well, it was nice, too nice to find words to describe our stay. I personally took time to walk two and half hours on the beach and I never found a place equal to Matemwe Lodge. Its one of its own kind and a MUST place to go.. For once I was treated like a king.

\Wonderful! by

We spent a wonderful week at Matemwe, Zanzibar. The first three days at Matemwe Beach house, which was pure unwinding and de-stress. We transferred to Villa Nuru, Maremwe Retreat for the balance of our stay and it was pure bliss. Throughout the food was always fresh, tasty and well prepared with enough variety to ensure we didn't get bored. The octopus was world lass and we dream of it. Two things that needed some improvement however was the condition of the deck cushions at the beach house, and the quality of the stone town tour. All the staff were amazing and we were extremely well looked after by our butler, Martin, for the duration of our stay. Asante Martin, kuharibiwa sisi sana!

Best blend of time and financial budget! by

FOUR AND A HALF STARS OF SHEER BLISS! After scanning six travel websites to get a generic recommendation (to filter out the 'incentivised' recommendations) I settled on three options for Zanzibar east coast. After receiving three quotes and submitting results to friends in Tanzania for review, I settled on Matemwe Lodge ? middle of the price range, availability and apparent solitude prospects. The preparation paid off - with only a three day window and an urgent need to unwind before a December of report writing this was the best break I could have taken - beyond expectations in almost every aspect (more local cuisine would have been welcome). Well done Matemwe Lodge staff - you managed to get a workaholic to not feel guilty about doing nothing within hours of arriving and for the duration of the stay. My partner loved the Wi-Fi and ability to make instant Facebook updates - personally no Wi-Fi would have suited me! The reef snorkelling was stupendous with excellent supervision! The staff at Matemwe Lodge made us feel like ?secret celebrities' ? sincere thanks. Next time Matemwe Retreat!
