Meerkat Manor CarnarvonCarnarvon, Northern Cape, South Africa Self-catering from R 250 (family units from R 2,800) | R 250 |
Meerkat Manor is situated in the small Karoo Town of Carnarvon. We offer two houses and five caravan stands to travellers. Each of the two air-conditioned houses have five comfortably furnished en-suite bedrooms with double or single beds.
The kitchens in both houses are fully equipped for self-catering, but meals are available on request. The communal lounge is furnished with a TV with DStv.
Meerkat Manor provides a comfortable braai area, as well as safe, off-street parking in shade. In summer guests can cool off in the rock pool or just relax on the 'stoep'. Various shops as well as cafés, as well as a restaurant, are within walking distance.
Carnarvon is rich in history and interesting places to see. The local museum hosts a variety of interesting pieces of the cultural history of the region. A tortoise reserve close by is home to 60 mountain tortoises. Some respond to their names and will come over for a snack when called.
Carnarvon also serves as the home of MeerKAT, a radio telescope under construction in the bid to host the Square Kilometer Array telescopes against Australia. A MeerKAT engineering test bed of seven dishes, the Karoo Array Telescope or KAT-7, is already complete on site and the construction and commissioning of the full MeerKAT array will follow.
Visit Carnarvon and enjoy the friendly people, breathe in the clean Karoo air and watch the unforgettable night sky.
