Mount Ceder Lodge in the Cederberg Mountains is a perfect destination for a weekend away, offering visitors a host of exciting accommodation and activity options. Located in a valley, surrounded by rugged and arrestingly dramatic mountains, Mount Ceder is situated on the main route through the Cederberg range.
The lodge features 11 fully equipped self-catering cottages sleeping two to six people, as well as three lovely campsites. All cottages are fully equipped with linen, towels, cutlery, crockery a fridge, stove, and microwave. There is also a fireplace inside and a braai area outside each cottage. Firewood available for purchase and a cleaning service is available on request.
The Old Mill House Restaurant provides hearty dinners, breakfasts and light lunches if you don't feel like cooking, and the little on-site store supplies essentials as well as local olive and fruit products. Mount Ceder has so much to offer such as hiking, river swimming, canoeing, horse riding, mountain biking, and exploring the local rock art.
The Cederberg region is only two and a half hours from Cape Town and yet the landscape is completely different from that of the Mother City; it is wilder and warmer, with a raw dramatic beauty. The dominating characteristic of the area is sharply defined sandstone rock formations, often reddish in colour. This group of rocks contains bands of shale and in recent years, a few important fossils have been discovered in these argillaceous layers. Farmers also cultivate the world-famous healthy rooibos tea, found only in the Cederberg of South Africa, and a visit to a rooibos farm is a delightful addition to a day trip from Mount Ceder.
