Birding - Photographic - Adventure Holidays
Day One: arrival ? ?bem vindo?
Fly in to Inhambane ? collection at the airport and shuttle, via the local well-known market, to Casa de Cocos. At Coconut Bay relax and become acquainted with your surroundings. Notice the bush and beach birding opportunities, enjoy sundowners around the pool and dinner at the lodge.
Day Two: South
Early start ? coffee/tea and rusks on the pool deck. Explore the ?Lagoas? (wetlands) and other good birding spots. Breakfast en route. After birding all morning and witnessing rural life in Mozambique, we return to Guinjaya Bay for lunch. (Own expense). Early afternoon relaxing on the beach or visit the market on the beach to appreciate or buy Mozambique art, souvenirs and garments. Slow drive back to the Lodge along the Coconut Coast road in search of more species, and maybe ?Lifers?. Dinner in the relaxed atmosphere of the Lodge.
Day Four: Panda Forest
Early, early start. Coffee and rusks at the Lodge. We head off to Panda to search for the Olive Headed Weaver. (see notes in information) Other specials will be sighted. It's a great drive travelling through diverse habitat biomes. Breakfast en route and lunch in the forest, under the shade of giant Msasa Trees with ?Old Man's Beard (lichen) hanging from the branches in curtains. (Nesting material for the target species; OHW) It's a ?WOW? day. Return to the Lodge late afternoon for a braai (barbeque) around the pool.
Fay Four: North
A ?not so? early start. Coffee and rusks at the Lodge. Followed by a slow drive through the bush and Lagoas to Inhambane. Breakfast at the Pescador Bistro (or similar) ? a restaurant with a magnificent setting overlooking the Estuary alongside the historic pier. A slow cultural drive through the magnificent historical town of Inhambane towards Barra Beach to search for the Crab Plover and other waders, turns, etc. White Sands (tide dependant) is a fantastic drive along the sandbar between the Mangrove Estuary and the Ocean. A stroll along the boardwalk through the Mangroves produces some exciting species. Lunch on the beach at one of the various local restaurants (own expense) slow drive back via Tofo (time permitting) through dune forest and coconut trees for dinner at the Lodge.
Day Five: Bamba Bush
Early, early start, Coffee and rusks at the Lodge. Drive around the Estuary via Maxixe to Bamba Bush, in search of the Green Tinkerbird (see notes under information). Breakfast en route and lunch in the bush. The bush is graced by enormous Baobabs and a number of species of birds are associated with these majestic trees. Apart from the above targeted bird, numerous others will be added to the list, whilst travelling through this magnificent countryside. Dinner at the Lodge.
Day 6: Relax
A ?not so early? start ? in fact, this is your day! There are a number of activities you can choose form at your own expense or simply relax. Suggestions: a beach brunch at Paindane and snorkelling at Coral Gardens, Deep Sea Fishing, Ocean Safari and Scuba Diving can be arranged. Dinner at a restaurant in the bay (own expense).
Day Seven: depart ? Bon Voyage?
A morning walk along the beach in search of Waders. Return to the Lodge for a Continental breakfast, and catch up on species lists and review the past day's activities. Visit Inhambane for last minute shopping en-route to the Airport. An extended Safari before or after the Mozambique experience incorporating the world famous Kruger National Park is an option. This would complete a magnificent Beach and Bush Adventure Holiday. The above itinerary does not include flights and transfers from Inhambane Airport. These can be arranged at an additional fee.
