Namaqua Silver SandsNamaqua National Park, Northern Cape, South Africa Mobile Camp from R 666 (family units from R 940) | R 666 |
Namaqua Silver Sands is a mobile camp for hikers, situated along the west coast of Namaqualand. The hike is so unique that no other hike can compete with this desert trail's transformation during the flower season. The hike runs over a period of six days and the mobile camp is moved accordingly.
The picture perfect trail takes place in the Namaqua National Park, offering more than 150 different bird species, among which we find the ludwig's bustard, steppe buzzard and the African black oystercatcher, which is in danger of extinction. Also to be seen on the trail are a variety of small game, whale-watching during mating and calving season, the second largest seal colony on the West Coast, and a kaleidoscope of succulent flower beauty in season.
As for the name Namaqua Silver Sands, the trail also hosts the only living dune system in South Africa which adds to the trail's uniqueness. The trail is rated one of the top 10 Slack-packing trails of South Africa, and can certainly turn nothing into something spectacular
Accommodation is provided in two-man canvas tents, each with a camping mattress, and there is also a communal tent with basic toilet and shower facilities.
