Ngare Sero Mountain Lodge

Set in lush gardens amid forest and crystal clear waters on the slopes of Mount Meru, Ngare Sero Mountain Lodge is a wonderful place to relax and simmer in the immense beauty of East Africa. The lodge has been adapted from an early colonial farmhouse built in the early 20th century and it is one of the oldest family lodges in Arusha.

Ngare Sero Mountain Lodge offers accommodation in 10 garden rooms, and three exclusive suites, one in the main colonial house and two adjoined suites in the Pool Cottage, providing personal service for its residents since 1974.

Here you can spend the days amid nature, watching the changing colours of the Kilimanjaro glaciers while sipping drinks on the veranda or hiking in the forest inhabited by colobus and Sykes monkeys as well as hundreds of small animal and bird species. The lodge is located only 30 minutes away from Kilimanjaro International Airport and Arusha town centre and it is a perfect base while on safari in the northern circuit Tanzania.

The main house of the lodge was built in 1905, and it still retains many of the original features. Long colonial verandas stretch along the front of the house. Long-armed chairs provide a perfect spot from which to contemplate the awesome view of Mount Kilimanjaro. The bar is next to the reception. The fireplace living room, furnished with the stone bench and leather cushions, is decorated with antiques commemorating Tanzania's German colonial past. All meals are served at two dining rooms downstairs. Upstairs there is a guest suite with a private balcony, a home theatre and a library with a notable movie collection.

Delicious home cooked meals of hearty soups, freshly caught trout with homemade bread, pastry, local cheese and bundles of fresh herbs and salads can be enjoyed at the lodge. Our vegetables and herbs are picked daily from the organic garden.
