Mtunzini, or 'Place in the Shade' in Zulu, is situated 135 km from Durban on the KwaZulu-Natal North Coast. This small, friendly town is the setting for Nkawu Cottage and the home of Isabelle and Yves Peneff, a Belgian couple who left their country 14 years ago in search of tranquility and beauty. They found what they were looking for and would love to share it with you.
Mtunzini offers everything you need for an amazing getaway. There are a few shops and restaurants in town for your basic needs and many activities for you to enjoy. It also has its own nature reserve, a magnificent lagoon, breathtaking dunes and endless beaches, exactly 2,3 km from the cottage.
Nkawu Cottage is decorated with a professional touch, as Isabelle is a paint technique specialist. Attention to detail is what you can expect from this fully furnished, self-catering cottage, where everything is included for your comfort and to make sure that your stay is an enjoyable one.
The cottage features two separate air-conditioned bedrooms; one with a double bed and one with two single beds. An extra bed can also be arranged, if required. The cottage has an open-plan dining, living room and entrance hall, and facilities include a TV and video machine, a fully equipped kitchen, bathroom with basin, shower/bath and separate toilet, a barbecue area with garden furniture, and secure parking. Towels and sheets are provided, however guests are required to bring their own beach towels. Laundry facilities are available at an extra cost and DStv can be accessed with guestsl own smart card.
Local activities include table tennis on site, horse riding, microlight flights, golf, squash, barge excursions, surfing, mountain biking, many walking trails, water skiing, jet-skiing, canoeing and cultural tours.
Mtunzini is an hour away from the renowned Hlululuwe-Umfolozi Park and half an hour further north is the St Lucia Wetland Park, a World Heritage Site located on the Maputaland coast where scuba diving is a must. An hour's drive south towards Durban you will find the Gateway Theatre of Shopping where kids can enjoy the skateboard park and wave house, climbing wall or catch a movie. Alternatively, Eshowe, closer inland, offers an aerial boardwalk, high up in the forest canopy and a must for the avid bird-watcher.
