Birch Grove is a charming log cabin in the heart of Hogsback. The comfortable accommodation set in the lush forests will have guests feeling like they have escaped the world. The log cabin has two bedrooms. The main bedroom has a queen-size bed as well as a single bed, and the second bedroom has a double bed. Both bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms with baths. The beds have electric blankets to keep the winter chill at bay. The comfortable cabin has a lounge area where guests can relax. It is equipped with a fully fitted kitchen including tea and coffee facilities. There is a gas heater for winter. Guests can stay on either a self-catering rate or a bed and breakfast rate. The log cabin also has a braai area to complete the picture. Hogsback lies on the western edge of the Amatola Mountains and is surrounded by indigenous Afromontane forests which give a mystical feel to the area. Guests are able to enjoy the scenery when walking, hiking or mountain biking. There are many opportunities to enjoy the calls of birds, or spend a relaxing afternoon fishing.

BIRCH GROVE RECENSIES (81 %) Wonderful stay! by Kathleen Everett, South Africa 15 July 2013 We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Birch Grove this past week, and look forward to coming back soon. The cottage was comfortable and in a wonderful situation, and being able to bring our dogs makes Birch Grove somewhere where we'll keep returning regularly. Awesome! by Tyrone Tudehope, South Africa 12 August 2013 Zanele was great, the cabin was warm, and tidy. Highly recommended. Tranquillity and sanctuary felt like I am in a movie by Sabelo Mzanywa 22 December 2017 The surroundings...the spacious cottage with all you need. I am definitely making it my place to renew and recharge batteries both in winter and I summer. Relaxation by Brenda Perrin 24 January 2018 The house was spotless, and well equipped. We loved the fresh flowers that were provided. Beautiful and quiet surroundings by Johan Duvenhage 29 May 2018 The cabin is good value for money and the booking and reception experience was great. Excellent location.
I would have liked a shower, and the hot water seems to be a bit finicky (you can't have both the hot and cold taps open at the same time) ... but the water was really hot.
There were sufficient utensils of all sorts. The microwave does not seem to have correct glass plate, so expect a few unexpected noises there.
Whilst a gas heater is available, there was no gas bottle provided ? not sure if they only stock it when it gets bitterly cold or if it has to be provided by yourself. However, the bed had an electric blanket which worked well. Beautiful winter stay in Brich Grove by Megan Maartens 09 July 2018 Lovely stay with friends in Brich Grove, though it was cold outside our warm electric blankets kept us warm at night. We enjoyed our stay in the cottage with all the basics we required. Friendly staff that was ready to help.
Thank you Chilly!! by Debbie Cornforth 12 July 2018 The linen on the beds was not all cleaned . The 2 seater couch has collapsed and you sit on the piece of wood that sticks up. The cottage is advertised at having a gas heater. The gas heater has no gas bottle in it and we were apparently meant to bring our own, but we were not told to. The electric blanket on the one double bed doesn't work very well and we had both our kids getting in to our bed shivering in the middle of the night. We stayed at 3 similar types of places on our holiday and all similarly priced but this one lagged far far behind the others. Disappointed.... Thoroughly enjoyed my stay by Mveleli Ngxowa 13 August 2018 The place was clean and everything was communicated in advance, Even though it was snowing and cold the electric blankets provided did the job. The kitchen had everything I needed and the place and location is just perfect for a quite weekend away from the noisy city, There was no TV which suited me just fine because my visit was mainly to do self-introspection. Thanks Lathula and Zanele, will definitely visit again. Excellent stay! by Bregt Vanswartenbrouck 26 September 2018 Very nice cottage, gives you value for money!
Clean and neat.
Small geyser, so you have to plan bathing if you are using both bathrooms. The forest and the lovely walks around about by Rosemarie Solomon 06 October 2018 The wood cabin is very neat well kept. There were beautiful protea to welcome us. I would have liked to spend more time there. Seeing the lovely open gardens with all their multitude of azalia types and Collie's by Peter Woolacott 15 October 2018 Definitely need heaters. Was very cold and there is no fire place. Some sort of shower facility in or over the bath would have made it great. Electrical fittings need to checked by an electrician. Some worked or didn't intermittently. This could be a fire hazard. Otherwise a lovely place. We would go again (with our heaters!!!). BIRCH GROVE LOCATIE
