De Berg Guesthouse is situated in Matatiele, in the shadow of the Drakensberg. We were established in 2005 by the Pieterse family who still manage the place. Because our guests are important to us, we offer friendly service, clean and spacious rooms and delicious meals.

Our town is also called "Sweet Matat" by the locals and it lies on the R56 which is the shortest and most scenic route between the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands and the Cape. There are three border posts into Lesotho which are between 40 and 60 km from Matatiele. The Mountain Lake Reserve forms part of Matatiele and is host to the rare rudd's lark.

Annelie and her family looked after us very well during our stay and helped us with our specific request to go birding in the Matatiele reserve. Annelie organised permits and keys for us with short notice. The rooms were lovely and clean and the garden is beautiful.

Friendly hostess Amelie, recommended dinner at the golf club that was enjoyable and very reasonably priced. Some seating in the room would have been appreciated.

Some parts of the room need maintenance - shower tray for instance. Otherwise a pleasant atmosphere.
