Gooderson Monks Cowl Golf Resort is a spectacular Drakensberg resort situated in the Central Drakensberg approximately four hours from Johannesburg and two and a half hours from Durban in the magnificent Champagne Valley. Welcome to the highest degree of service in central berg accommodation.

Gooderson Monks Cowl Golf Resort's 9 hole, 18-tee golf course is certainly one of the most scenic with views of the magnificent Champagne Valley. This view is unique among all Drakensberg resorts that form part of the Central Berg Accommodation.

We have 36 superior hotel rooms either mountain or dam facing with two double beds, air conditioning, DStv, tea and coffee making facilities, mini-bar fridge and private patio. Also available are our 8 6-sleeper self-catering units, fully equipped with a master bedroom en-suite, second bedroom with twin beds and adjacent bathroom and two sleeper couches in the lounge, with DStv, fireplace for those chilly winter nights and private patio with braai facilities.

Our 18 hole adventure golf is a must for the whole family as well as new our magnificent rock swimming pool complete with waterfall and slide, kiddies play area with adventure jungle gym, swings and trampolines. The resort also has two tennis courts, badminton, volleyball, swing ball, fishing, mountain bike trails and much more. Guests can also enjoy a refreshing drink at the Rock Pool Bar whilst the little ones have fun around the pool.

After a round of golf, guests can enjoy a substantial a-la-carte and pub menu at the Friar Tuck Pub and Restaurant which is open from 07H00 to late. Also look out for our weekly specials especially our famous Wednesday ox-tail special. After dinner, the bar crowd arrives to trade stories of the day's play.

Great rooms, well laid out and views are fantastic. Only issue is the skylights which are not covered so the light comes in during the early morning.

Review of stay by

We spent 3 nights at the resort and paid premium rates - it is rated 4 star but does not even come close. The rooms are semi-decent. The facilities are in need of serious attention and the cleanliness is n9t a priority. The restaurant has a 3 page menu of which half of the dishes are unavailable. The food was mediocre. We asked for bottles of water and none available whilst it is 40 degrees outside. When questioned the response we got was that they were not prepared for the influx of people over the holiday season. Really????

Won't be staying there again.

We had a fantastic holiday! Staff were friendly, meals delicious, we will be back!

Rooms and meals by

Warm welcomed by the staff when we arrived. You feel at home. Rooms are abnormally clean and well arranged. Food i.e breakfast and supper up to standard. Well maintained golf course. I have enjoyed playing my nine hole. Surrounding well look after. But there is a room next to the parking lot of room 14 to 18. Heavy smell coming from that room I hope is a broken sewerage which need to be fix. Overall everything is fine.
