**Season of operation 20May to 01Nov** Overlooking the Luangwa river in the prime game viewing area of the South Luangwa National Park, Kaingo's relaxed, personal and friendly atmosphere offers its guests fantastic game-viewing opportunities within an area of stark beauty and varied terrain. From the safety of your chalet you may witness some of the night time visitors to camp: an inquisitive hyena, prowling leopard, grazing hippo or silently hunting owls. Accommodation comprises of four twin bedded chalets and one honeymoon suite with a stunning out door bath on the banks of the river. All the rooms have en-suite facilities, are well ventilated, mosquito-proofed and silently lit by solar power. A special feature of Kaingo is the unique wooden deck built out over the river. From this relaxing vantage point one can view game coming down to drink, basking hippos, water birds fishing, and daily elephant crossings. In addition to Kaingo Camp, Shenton Safaris operate Mwamba Bush Camp, providing an opportunity for those of a more adventurous spirit to explore the parks heartland. Wonderfully remote and peaceful, the site is a relaxed 3-hour bushwalk from Kaingo (or 20 minute driving transfer). Set on the banks of the Mwamba River, a tributary of the Luangwa, the camp enjoys shady views of perennial water-holes. The chalets are uniquely designed with two large skylights (protected by mosquito gauze) allowing you to experience sleeping under the stars. Our photographic hides of Derek's own design are a special feature of Shenton Safaris. These hides are guaranteed to get you close enough to the wildlife to take a while host of stunning photos ? in complete safety. Our hides have certainly turned the heads of the professionals. In the past year we have been visited by world renowned wildlife photographer Frans Lanting (twice) of National Geographic, Own Prumm of Discovery Channel, David Rogers of Africa Geographic, Lyn Johnsson of National Geographic and Independent film maker Peter Lamberti (Valley of the Golden Baboon). In previous years the BBC have used our hippo hide in the filming of the Wild Africa Series. Walking Safari Experience Walking safaris were pioneered in South Luangwa national park and for many guests provide the ultimate safari experience. At a relaxed pace one can truly appreciate the extraordinary beauty of this area and feel the thrill of viewing big game on foot. To ensure your safety you will be led by an armed scout and qualified guide who will interpret this complex wilderness. Game-viewing from one of our custom built, open 4WD vehicles is a real pleasure. Comfortable, high seats allow superb all-round vision and easy photography. Our qualified and experienced guides will take you to game-rich areas not commonly visited. Big cats hunting, mongoose and porcupine foraging; hyena, civet, genet and Pels Fishing Owl, all provide great entertainment and a challenge to the photographer.
