Marquard Hotel is an example of life in South Africa during the late Victorian, early Edwardian era and is located in Marquard in the beautiful Eastern Free State. The hotel is furnished with antiques that gives it a unique atmosphere and elegance. The Marquard Hotel features eight en-suite rooms, furnished with antique copper and wooden beds all dressed in percale linen, and lavished with ornamental cupboards, drawing bureaus and kists.
We offer an a la carte menu to visitors as well as regular themed functions such as offal evenings. Enjoy your meals in our dining room, tea garden, coffee house or the verandah. In Victorian times the facilities in and around the bar area included a coffee house and a public and private bar that is adjacent to the coffee house. The coffee house seats twelve adults and four children. Light is supplied by three original Victorian candelabras which gives a soft, and warm glow.
Time stands still when relaxing in the lounge, listening to soothing music, sipping a cocktail, or drinking a cup of good old-fashioned Douwe Egberts coffee or Rooibos Tea. A bookcase in the lounge with books from days gone by can be enjoyed by guests. The existence of a hairdressing salon and barber shop at the Marquard Hotel is indicated by a revolving barber pole against the wall on the front verandah. Appointments to make use of the hairdressing facilities at the salon can be made when booking accommodation.
Expect to find warm hospitality and heartwarming surprises as you enjoy the accommodation and cuisine on offer.
