Mkoko House is situated on the edge of the mangroves, in a quiet and peaceful area on Manda Island. It faces Shela Village, on Lamu Island, and is separated by a five-minute boat ride across the narrow channel.
The house is built on nearly one-acre of land, in a typical coastal style that allows ocean breezes to travel around freely. There are three en-suite double bedrooms with mosquito nets available, as well as a fourth bedroom on request for larger groups. The kitchen is fully equipped and opens up onto a lovely outside cooking area.
The stairs takes you onto a large open floor with views of the mangroves and the garden, covered by a large Makuti roof. There are many hammocks, seating corners, a Lamu bed for naps, as well as other dining areas to enjoy meals.
There are two main beaches in the vicinity of the house, with white sand and crystal-blue waters. Dhow trips are a must during your stay, either exploring the archipelago or down through the mangroves on Manda. The island is incredibly tranquil and boasts an extensive mangrove ecosystem, with an array of birds and monkeys.
