Out of Africa Lodge is part of Out of Africa Guest Houses in the small Karoo town, Carnarvon.
Out of Africa offers warm hospitality and comfort in eight private self-catering units in a quiet area on the outskirts of the town, but within walking distance to the business area and restaurants.
Each unit has a well-equipped, self-catering kitchen with tea and coffee facilities as well as rusks and three cereals. Each unit has a fridge, a two-plate stove, a microwave, a frying pan, crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils, as well as braai equipment. The comfortable units are furnished with double and single beds and have an en-suite bathroom with a bath or shower each. All bedding and towels are supplied and in winter all beds are fitted with electric blankets and winter sheets, as well as two warm, thick blankets for those cold Karoo nights. Fans and wall heaters are also provided.
A television with the Hotel Premium Package DStv channels is available. The lodge also has a spacious lounge where groups like to gather and watch TV. Braai packs are available on request for those who want to enjoy organic Karoo lamb chops and sausage. Kindly note that the lodge is a non-smoking establishment, but smoking areas are provided outside.
Each unit has an ironing board and iron and insect repellent and emergency lamps are provided. Hairdryers are supplied on request and a laundry service is available for stays of three days or more. The entire complex is fenced, well lit and has lock-up parking for each unit.
Carnarvon also serves as the home of MeerKAT, a radio telescope under construction in the Northern Cape in the bid to host the Square Kilometer Array telescope against Australia. At the brick yard, travellers can watch the brick man baking bricks or visit the old Fort, the only one in the region, constructed on Carnarvon Koppie, which also offer beautiful views of the town.
