Pilanesberg Private Lodge is a new private retreat nestled on the foot of the majestic Pilanesberg Mountains, in the Black Rhino Private Reserve. The lodge is uniquely situated within a two-hour drive from Johannesburg and Pretoria, and is within a 20-minute drive from Sun City.
The lodge is uniquely positioned in a part of the Pilanesberg National Park wilderness area that has previously not been accessible to any visitors, where guests enjoy nothing but spectacular views of the world-famous Pilanesberg Alkaline Ring Complex. The lodge was designed to incorporate the views to ensure that even when you are not on game drives, you still have the opportunity to see any of the animals from the lodge, and elephant, Black and White rhino, lion and leopard have been spotted from the lodge in the last few months.
We offer five sleeping units that are connected via paved pathways and bridges to the communal area. Each chalet is equipped with extra length king-size beds with white linen, an en-suite bathroom with a rock bath and both indoor and outdoor showers, air-conditioning, ceiling fans, a bar fridge, hairdryer, kettle, mini safe, and a private patio. The communal area consists of a lounge, dining room, library, TV lounge, bar, kitchen, pool deck, covered patio, boma, and a viewing deck.
The reserve is characterized by huge numbers of Tambotie trees and therefore we have regular sightings of the bad tempered Black rhino. The reserve is entered exclusively through our private entrance gate on the western side and is home to the Big 5 as well as cheetahs and wild dogs. Antelope species include sable, eland, gemsbok and springbok. With a species list of over 354, the reserve is also a true birder's paradise.
Activities in the area include hot air balloon safaris over the park, elephant-back safaris with elephant interaction where kids get a chance to get up close and personal with the elephants, as well as special safaris tailor-made for photographic, walking and bird safaris. Visit Sun City with all its fantastic amenities, including the Valley of Waves, the world-famous Gary Player Golf Course and The Lost City Golf Course.
Pilanesberg Private Lodge also offers private walking safaris through Nare Walking Safaris, which is a private operator, based in the Black Rhino Reserve; the walking safaris are in the wilderness area of the Pilanesberg National Park. Using the Pilanesberg Private Lodge as a base camp, guests get the opportunity to explore this pristine area of the park on foot. This must definitely be one of the most intriguing activities found in, and around the Pilanesberg and Sun City.
The walks are approximately 2.5 hours long and concentrate on the smaller aspect of the fauna and flora, and guests will have the opportunity of encountering any of the Big 5 members in their natural habitat. On the walk guests can expect to look at the tracks and other signs of animals, an abundance of bird life, and a variety of plants and insects. What makes a walking safari unique is the fact that you are up close and personal with all aspects of nature.
