This was the 1st holiday where I actually couldn't wait to go home. The house was terrible, I can actually not believe that this house is on your books. The following weren't working: washing machine, tumble dryer, toaster. The fridge's door did not close properly(huge opening to corner). The house is serviced daily... but unfortunately we could not tolerate the gentleman's odor as it was not a pleasant smell, therefor we had to do all the cleaning ourselves. Every morning there was a 3mm thick dust (sand) layer on everything and everywhere - all the doors and windows had huge gaps, where the gentle breeze as you describe it (more like a hurricane) blew all the sand from the dune into the house. The dust also fell from the grass/thatched roof. Dust in the cupboards, on our clothes and on the beds. The swimming pool pump was also not working and there was no HTH to maintain the pool. The poor cleaner had to empty the pool with a bucket and then clean it with a cloth - this had to be done 3 times during our stay. We felt so sorry for him by the 3rd week that we kept quit and just stopped using the pool (with it's thick sand layer). There was also no extra clean bedding, we had to make use of the same set for the duration of our stay. This too was full of stains on arrival. We had to hand-wash our bedding and our clothes in buckets. (the second set of bedding we discovered later in a black bag in a plastic box on top of a cupboard - could not be used as it had a bad odor) Not worth the money we paid. I believe this could be a great location but this house needs more that TLS and the guy that is to clean/service the house should also be addressed as his smell was unbearable.

Establishments response:

As Estate owners, it was reported back that you were careless, drove around with dune buggies on the dunes, damaged the roads, were rude and disturbing to others.
To address your complaints, let's state some facts:
You were one of those clients impossible to please:
I have never heard of someone insisting on a dishwasher in Mozambique.

1. It is interesting to note that you "can't wait to go home", yet stayed the entire 3 weeks.
2. The washing machine, tumble dryer were not advertised as part of the content.
2b. Toaster: We apologise, this was still working a month before you arrived.
Because we are so close to the ocean, corrosion is a major problem and appliances pack up suddenly, especially if used everyday.
3. Fridge: After you complained on the 1st day, a replacement fridge was offered, but declined and rejected, yet you continued to use the same fridge for 3 weeks (even tho the door could be closed at the bottom with little effort using the knee).
4. Perspiration smell is hard to control in "Africa" especially with temperatures and humidity at coast.
-perhaps you could of offered him something too? especially since you stated that you felt "so sorry for him".
5. I would not say there are no gaps in doors/windows, as we build only with local material + labour.
A pleasant wind is something most other lodges would welcome any day in the heat of summertime in Mozambique.
6. Dust from roof: the roof was redone after we experienced major damage with Hurricane Dineo in February 2017.
It is possible there might have been some sand still which hasn't blown away.
But I stayed there November 2017, and did not experience any...
7. Pump: It is normal for splash pool to be emptied, remove sand from bottom and refilled.
Chlorine is always provided, the week of your arrival, local town were out of stock.
8. Bedding: these are changed every 7 days with fresh linens.
However, you did not allow worker inside whom you "felt sorry for", inside the house.
9. Not worth money paid: I recall you did have difficulties settling outstanding money even before you arrived in Mozambique.
The home is a sleep 10, thus R220 pp pd. Lets be realistic, this is not the rates 5 star hotels charge. Don't expect the same.

Wow, what an experience! This gorgeous house ticked all the boxes, it is very spacious, well equipped, clean and comfortable. We spent many happy hours outside on the deck and in the splash pool soaking in the magnificent views. Miles of sandy beaches on both sides and just a short drive to the lighthouse. No aircon is needed as there is a constant refreshing breeze throughout the house. House was serviced daily and bread, veggies and fish were delivered thanks to the domestic Domingo who had arranged this with the locals. The only thing we missed was an open fire braai but the gas braai worked very well and made sense as an open fire on a breezy day would have been a challenge as well as a safety hazard. A big thank you to our hosts who assisted us with all our queries and went the extra mile to ensure our stay exceeded our expectations.
