A stunning location in the heart of the majestic Drakensberg mountains, Sani Lodge Backpackers offers a wide variety of outdoor activities, hearty meals, and well-deserved relaxation. We are one of the oldest backpackers in the country, welcoming guests from around the world for over 30 years.
Our self-catering cottages Honeyguide (6 sleeper) and Aloe ( 4 sleeper ) are not part of the Backpackers; they have their own driveway access, private gardens, braai stands, en-suite bathrooms, sitting rooms with open log fireplaces.
In addition, as a Fair Trade Tourism certified establishment since 2011, we are leaders in the field of responsible and sustainable tourism. This has gained us global recognition for our ethical practices in social upliftment as well as nature conservation. At Sani Lodge Backpackers we believe we cater towards the independent traveller with a conscience.
Our cosy common room area provides a laid-back environment in which to connect with fellow adventurers. It has been the starting point of many a great story, berg exploration and friendship. For your convenience and in the interest of being sociable, the communal kitchen adjoins this common room area. With stunning views, a wood-burning fireplace and floor to ceiling information on the surrounding area, our common room is the heart of Sani Lodge Backpackers.
Whether you'd rather catch a tan next to the pool, kick back with a something interesting from our book exchange, or simply sip a cold beer by the braai whilst the sun sets on another stunning African day, we are the perfect setting. Sani Lodge Backpackers is situated at the foot of the legendary Sani Pass. This places us a mere 16 km from the South African border with Lesotho. We offer guided overnight hikes leaving from our doorstep within the Drakensberg World Heritage Site National Park. Let yourself be lulled off to sleep by the waterfall flowing over your caves entrance when you spend the night in a natural overhang.
