Splashy Fen Cottage is a secluded thatched property on Splashy Fen Farm, home to the famous music festival. If you're looking for peace and solitude with spectacular views of the Drakensburg mountains, lovely spots for swimming and tubing and fantastic hiking and birding, this is the place.
The cottage sleeps six people in three bedrooms, plus an additional four people on a mezzanine which has three further beds and a pull-out mattress. There are three bedrooms - a master bedroom with king-size bed and en-suite bathroom, a bedroom with two single beds and a bedroom with a double bed. Overlooking the sitting room is a mezzanine level with three single beds and pull out mattress. Adjoining the sitting room is a toilet and a bath. The kitchen is spacious and has a dining room table in it.
We are right next to the uKhahlamba-Drakensberg park where fantastic hiking trails can be accessed. Sani Pass is well worth a trip and there are a number of operators in Underberg and Himeville who will organise this for you. There are several restaurants in the area as well as cycling, horse riding trails and river adventure guides.
To view a video of the cottage search SplashySelfCatering (all one word) on YouTube.
Please note the following. Splashy Fen Cottage is set at the end of a five-kilometre track, which can be accessed in a normal car with care but a high clearance vehicle is advised. Phone reception at the cottage is poor and there is no wifi, however, there is good phone reception on parts of the track leading to the property. Children must be supervised at all times because the property is close to a river and does not have a secure fence.
The mezzanine area in the living room is accessed by ladder and the wooden rails at the edge of the platform mean that small children need to be supervised at all times. All pets must be controlled and not allowed to wander as we are surrounded by farms with livestock. There is a braai but please be aware that the cottage is thatched and is a fire risk so do not use if it is windy.
Although we are pet friendly we do not allow more than two dogs at a time.
