Syringa Sands Mountain CottageRankins Pass, Limpopo, South Africa Zelf-Zichricht | (POA) |
Looking for peace and tranquility? Syringa Sands is the perfect destination for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts.
Situated on the Kransberg plateau in the malaria free Waterberg in Limpopo, you will find us halfway Vaalwater and Thabazimbi, 38km from the Marakele National Park gate and 14km from the Welgevonden South Gate and Kololo Lodge. The route to the gate is a scenic journey passing several game farms; the last 40km stretch is a dirt road, a 4x4 or high clearance vehicle is recommended, especially in the rainy season.
The Mountain Cottage has endless views, remote ruggedness, spectacular sunsets and complete isolation. A unique spot to truly disconnect and relax, walk, enjoy the hikes and spend the evening star gazing.
The charming cottage features one bedroom with an extra length queen size and single bed, as well as 2 daybeds in the lounge, an open plan kitchen/lounge area, bathroom with basin and toilet and an outside shower only.
The cottage is off the grid and operates on solar power for the camping fridge, water pump and hot water geyser. We rely on rainwater harvesting (20,000-liter storage) and provide battery operated lamps for lighting, expect very limited connectivity. This eco cottage is 7km from the Syringa Sands gate and best reached by 4x4, we can take you to the cottage from the gate as well, kindly arrange this with us beforehand.
Apart from the Mountain Cottage there is another cottage and a campsite on the farm. The Syringa Sands Forest Cottage (4 to 6 sleeper) and the Syringa Sands Bush Campsite (for 8) are about 5km from the Mountain Cottage.
Please remember to bring drinking water, torches, firewood and your walking shoes, there are 2 well demarcated trails:
The Red route walking trail (9km), down the mountain, through the vleis, grasslands and forest to the large dam and slowly back up the mountain. You will see plains game along the way and enjoy a rest halfway at the campsite/lapa and dam.
The White route hiking trail (5km), up the mountain to Rankin's beacon, between huge boulders to the viewpoint over Alma valley and back along the Sandriver mountain ridge. You will encounter rock daisies, and might catch a glimpse of the klipspringers and kudu's amidst the rocky outcrops.
