The Crow en the HangmanCalitzdorp, Western Cape, South Africa Zelf-Zichricht | (POA) |
Of the three buildings available on the Kraaldoorn Farm this is the most unusual and quirky.
The Crow and the Hangman cottage is a converted cow shed, double volume, decorated in a unique style which will give you a true Karoo life experience.
The cottage floors are original ostrich and cow dung(not suitable for high heels and long toenails) the mud and stone walls are thick, with high ceilings, wooden beams and rietdak.
In an attempt to maintain the origin features and atmosphere old Oregon sash windows and stable doors were used(snug finishes often not possible)
The lovely outdoor braai area on the "stoep" boasts a typical Karoo view. Your privacy is assured.
Guests have access to a good quality sound system, so bring your own CD's as there are no neighbours to worry about.
Please note that there is a family of small bats in the ceiling which can be heard tweeting to themselves at sunrise and sunset.
Visitors may never see one but they are around. All part of the country experience.
If you find this a bit daunting have a look at either Kraaldoorn Farm Cottage or the Homestead.
There are a number of other quirks and I would suggest, although you won't find a similar experience in a hurry, this place MAY not be best for the true city slicker. My advice :be adventurous!
