Tshukudu Private Game Reserve borders the world renowned Greater Kruger National Park and combines home comforts with the exciting Big 5 safari experience (Lion, Rhino, Elephant, Leopard and Buffalo). The lodge has magnificent views of the Drakensberg Mountains and offers close encounters with animals in their natural habitat.

Tshukudu where exclusivity is assured covers 3800ha of prime Bushveld and is situated close to Hoedspruit in the Limpopo Province.

Provision has been made in certain units to accommodate the access of wheelchairs facilitating the disabled or elderly.

Each en-suite unit is equipped with a shower, minibar fridge, coffee and tea-making facilities, hairdryers as well as a safe. Amenities are replenished daily. International plugs can be purchased in the Curio Shop.

Breakfasts and light lunches are served on the thatched veranda and showcase South African dishes prepared from fresh local ingredients. Evening dinners are often enjoyed seated around a roaring fire in the African Boma, under the stars. Traditional venison dishes also feature on this authentic South African menu.

For the budget conscious wanting to have the Tshukudu experience there is also a self-catering option available.

Recliners under a canopy of thatch beckon guests to enjoy shady relaxation around the pool, which is also a prime vantage point for game viewing. A waterhole lies just beyond the perimeter of the Lodge and attracts various antelope species, elephant and buffalo. Indulge in the peacefulness of the African Bush while our trained staff brings you your favourite cocktail to enjoy.

Our highly skilled Game Guides will accompany guests in the morning and early evening in open 4x4 game drive vehicles. Their extensive knowledge and training ensures that your game experience will be unforgettable, exciting and informative. This private reserve is known for its close encounters with a vast variety of game including the Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino). In addition, all game drives on the reserve coordinate their game viewing activities which ensure the best of sightings.

It was nice to see the lodge, but unfortunately we didn't see the cheetah - we thought that she was always there but it turned out that she's at the lodge every 4-5 days. We liked the morning walk with the lion Impy. I think the lodge and the drives are good for family with children, but I did not get a 'real game-drive' feeling (I've been to many other private camps and Tsukudu is different). We were told that there are 40 lions, but 38 in enclosures and only 2 in the 'wild'. When I asked about the breeding and rehab projects I was told that the animals could NOT go back to the wild because they would kill humans(???) That was a little strange. ============================= Reply from Tshukudu Lodge :- We are sorry to hear that she had mixed feelings about the lodge. It is not possible to get the feeling of the lodge if you stay only for one night. You really need to stay for more than a night to get the whole bush experience. Concerning the cheetah, even thought she is an orphan she comes and goes as she pleases. But it is a pity that Mrs. Klarenbeek did not see her. We have hundreds of return guests that would not go anywhere else.
