Situated in a tranquil, scenic environment with its spectacular variety of birds, Umfolozi River Lodge is situated on 25 hectares of land, which borders a private game reserve and is approximately 30 minutes from St Lucia world heritage site, Richards Bay international airport, Mapelane beach and the world-renowned Umfolozi / Hluhluwe Game Reserve. Umfolozi River Lodge and Bird Park is an ideal opportunity to escape from busy everyday life. Enjoy a variety of light meals and beverages at our restaurant. Allow us to plan your day with boat tours on Lake St. Lucia, Game drives, horse Trails, whale watching, kayaking safaris, cultural village, deep sea fishing and a choice of three golf courses nearby. Along the natural and unspoilt coastline, golden beaches stretch as far as the eye can see, lapped by warm blue waters from the Indian Ocean and bounded by the world's highest vegetated sand dunes. Whales and schools of dolphins frequent this spectacular coastline, also the natural breeding habitat for the leather back and loggerhead turtles. These waters are renowned for big game fishing and the much sought after marlin are landed here. The warm Mozambique current attracts a kaleidoscope of colourful tropical fish that feed off coral reefs.

Enjoyable by

We stayed for 4 days at the umfolozi birdpark. The rooms are nice and big. Maybe AC could be better, but that's only a summer problem. All the animals at the park were a great pleasure for the kids who could help them feed every morning. The host was very friendly by giving us a lot of info to make nice daytrips.

Our stay was enjoyable by

The location of the lodge was of particular usefulness to us as we needed to travel north east to St Lucia and south to Richards Bay, so being kind of midway helped. The lodge grounds are lovely to walk around in & absorb the environment. Kids will paricularly enjoy the birds. Florence was always very helpful. Whenever we needed something she went out of her way to ensure she did what was within her means. I think she may have made all the difference to our stay.

NOT HAPPY.
DUMPT IN A BACK ROOM.
NOT SELF CATERING.
FOOD VERY GOOD.
CROWDID WITH BIKE TRAILERS & NOWHERE TO PARK.
LEFT 2 NIGHTS EARLY

Awesome by

I just love Umfolozi Bird Park and Lodge.  So welcoming, all the essentials, braaing or meals.  Awesome Birds, Koi Pond and entertainment area!

Needs attention by

Bit over the hill all over. Everything could use some extra attention, the birds, the accomodation and the restaurant.
