Situated on top of the hill in between green paddocks and an enormous indigenous forest, Old Kilgobbin Farm Cottages is the perfect haven for those wanting to escape from the hectic pace and pressures of city life.
The main cottage, Gobbin's Cottage, is a spacious three-bedroom home with a large open-plan kitchen and a cosy lounge with underfloor heating and a fireplace for the chilly winters. The kitchen is well-equipped with a large fridge, oven and hob, and a microwave. A large bedroom can be found on the second floor and is furnished with two queen-size extra length beds as well as a Victorian-style bathroom.
Downstairs is the Cubbyhole, a cosy space with a luxury bunk bed and a view of the garden, as well as a second bedroom furnished with two single beds and a private bathroom with a toilet and basin only. Down duvets and electric blankets are also provided. The cool back verandah is nestled beside the veggie garden and old plum trees, offering a perfect spot for quiet reading, while the front verandah is perfect for late breakfasts, lazy lunches and late afternoon Gin and Tonics.
The second cottage, the Chicken Coop, is a quaint cottage built for two snuggled between the veggie garden and the paddock. It is furnished with two single beds and has a small bathroom with a shower. The cooking nook is equipped with a gas hob, convection oven and a fridge, and the enclosed verandah serves as a lounge and dining room.
Kilgobbin is great for bird-watchers as it has Cape parrots, three species of cranes, Crowned eagles and 150 listed birds in the surrounding valley. Guests can take a walk on the 450-hectare farm and possibly see grazing reedbuck, endangered oribi, and samango monkeys nibbling on nutgrass at the forest edge or a duiker peeping out of his rocky home near the skinny dip dam. If you arrive home in the moonlight, the porcupine may shake his quills at you and have you running for the cottage door. As Kilgobbin is the home of Kilgobbin Friesian Stud and HorsePlay, guests will also see paddocks full of beautiful black horses.
