Palahala Luxury Tented CampKatavi National Park, Lake Tanganyika Province, Tanzania Lodge from R 7,271 (family units from R 29,084) | R 7,271 |
Located in Katavi National Park, a remote national park in southwest Tanzania, Palahala Camp is a permanent tented luxury safari camp which affords the perfect opportunity to experience a wildlife-rich, wonderfully tourist-free part of Africa during your Tanzania safari. Opened in 2005, Palahala, which means ?sable antelope' in Swahili, sits on the banks of the Kapapa River, an advantageous location particularly during the dry season.
Palahala's eight spacious tents are octagonal-shaped and measure 90-square metres. Each tent is furnished with king-size beds, the finest linens, and goose-down quilts, and include verandas that overlook the bush and river. We have installed plumbing at Katavi, so each tent now features hot running water. Old-fashioned hurricane lamps light your way for your short walk from the camp's main tent. Each tent also features a writing desk and free daily laundry service.
Open-sided, customised bush vehicles are available for sunrise Katavi game drives that can include breakfast in the bush. In the late afternoon, a game drive or a guided walking safari might end with the popular sundowner on the banks of the Kapapa River. Large herds of hippos, eland, sable and roan antelopes are commonplace during your Katavi safari. The river's floodplains are a haven during dry season for elephants, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, impala, lion and hyena. Hundreds of elephants and several herds of thousand-plus buffalo can gather at one time in this area aptly called ?Paradise Plains'. Close by, guests can view rare birds of prey, spoonbills and sacred ibis and up to 20 different types of herons and egrets, ostrich and pelicans.
The quality and variety of dishes our chefs can prepare in the middle of the bush will astound you. Experienced chefs create mouth-watering delicacies using fresh Tanzanian produce, meats and fish. Delectable meals are served in a number of intimate locations with uninterrupted views of the river. Enjoy a hearty breakfast in camp on our viewing deck, to the raucous cries of fish eagles, before heading out on an early morning game drive. Lunch is provided in the bush, and there are always snacks and drinks on the vehicles. You will experience late afternoon sundowners in amazingly beautiful locales, and enjoy romantic, torch-lit dinners in the boma, complete with campfire and a full sky of stars.
