Pomene Ridge in Mozambique offers 4 self-catering casas overlooking the Northern end of the Pomene estuary. From their elevated positions on The Ridge, the houses offer spectacular views of the Pomene estuary and wetlands and an expansive white beach onto the open sea.
Pomene is a fairly secluded area and is situated in the province of Inhambane. The nearest town is Massinga. For those visitors wanting to get away from the crowded vacation spots, Pomene attracts fishermen, divers, surfers, sailors, windsurfers, kiteboarders, kayakers, fat bikers, birders, hikers, 4 x 4 enthusiasts and holiday-makers who just want to relax.
Guests staying at Pomene Ridge are accommodated in fully furnished and equipped 3 bedroomed reed-and-concrete houses complete with kitchen, bathroom (with shower) and living area overlooking the sea and the estuary. Designed to accommodate six, the houses are serviced daily and are powered by a generator (guests to bring their own fuel) and 12-volt battery (providing lights in the evening without generator noise). There is a water pump which pumps water from a well.
The houses are approximately 3 minutes' drive from the beach - you may walk but the return trip is quite steep. The chalets are set on spacious stands (40 metres apart) and surrounded by natural vegetation.
A boat ride up the estuary into the mangroves is a must for those who like to explore ? don't forget the binos!
Boating enthusiasts can safely launch and moor their boats in the estuary. Navigation out to sea is straightforward as there is a channel. The reefs are extensive and magnificent.
Fishing safaris can be arranged.
