Relaxed by Anonymous 22 February 2006 This hotel is as advertised - colonial style, reminiscent of a bygone era. The room was adequate, but quite old fashioned. The food was good but not outstanding. The photos on the walls of the hotels make it a veritable museum of enormous interest. Recommended for a relaxing night. Wonderful olde world style by Niki Diamond, South Africa Friday, 10 July 2009 A really wonderful old world style hotel. Beautiful marble floors throughout... the reception were very accommodating on ur early arrival & helped us promptly with a room. The rooms are very comfortable & have beautiful white lacy linen. Loved the tea & coffee in the rooms with REAL milk. On our leaving the hotel gave us a room for an hour so that our kids could relax before driving home. Would definitely recommend & stay again. Disappointed by Cedric Downard, South Africa Monday, 31 August 2015 First the positives: friendly, helpful and responsive staff - when we arrived, the bed side lights were not working - they provided immediate response to fix the problem. However, in the morning the bathroom light did not work - it flashed for a moment then off and on flickering - difficult to shave / wash etc (no windows - a little pokey bathroom for a 4 star hotel!). Having a shower in the bath was messy because the outlet was blocked and the bath filled up rapidly. Now that is the sort of problem you cannot (or do not want) to report while in the middle of getting washed and dressed, so I reported it afterwards. Great apologies were given and the receptionist was pleasant, saying that they would have given us another room.... but I believe that was no good... it was too late. I believe they should have checked the workings of the room before we (clients) arrived. We were also disappointed in the size of serving of the rack of lamb in the hotel restaurant. It was very expensive and 4 small chops (two small mouthfuls of meat each) were served. I feel the hotel is definitely not worthy of the 4 star rating.
