Rhenosterpoort Water Retreat

Rankins Pass, Limpopo, South Africa
Self-catering from R 325 (family units from R 1,000)
R 325

Rhenosterpoort, situated in the Waterberg Mountains and disected by the Rhenoster River, is an unspoilt piece of paradise that has been a regular destination for hikers since 1996. There are two marked hiking trails of 10 km and 12 km. There have been many requests in the past for a different type of accommodation to the very primitive bush camps and the result is a self-catering chalet overlooking a farm dam on the Rhenoster River. Ideal for a peaceful family getaway, we offer game drives, a choice of two marked hiking trails, fishing, and bird watching. Also perfect for just relaxing in the peaceful natural surroundings. The area is malaria-free and the proximity of the chalet to a permanent water source means that this is the perfect place to visit in the summer. Kids will love swimming in all the natural rock pools. There are many activities in the area that your host Sharyn will help book. Visit the Marakele National Park, go on a Big 5 game drive at Kololo Nature Reserve, spend some time on the Cheetah Feeding Tour at the de Wildt Shingwedzi Cheetah Farm, and much more. The Stone Chalet sleeps four in an open-plan bedroom with a double-bed and a double-bunk, and has an en-suite bathroom and fully-equipped kitchenette. There is a private braai area with place for a campfire to sit around, ideal for a cool sun-downer after a hot summer's day. Please take note that no pets are allowed.

Wonderful, close to nature by

We had a wonderful time there. We were surprised at how close to the water the cabin was and it really created a wonderful atmosphere. We enjoyed the privacy the cabin offers, leaving us to enjoy the bushveld, the mountain and the dam. We will definitely be going there again!

Rhenosterpoort is 'soul food' by

The tranquility and unspoilt beauty of Rhenosterpoort rejuvenates the soul and provide a complete escape. Walking on the lands with farmer Anton le Roux was fascinating. It is the best run, most humane farm we have ever seen. We plan to return again and again, with or without our children.

Relaxing at your own pace by

The 3 days we spent at this wonderful and relaxing place in the Rankin pass area was worth more than just the actual hours on the clock. it is the ideal place to give your mind an soul some peace while enjoying the wildlife and pleasant hikes to one of the most serene waterfalls I have seen. Do not hesitate to go and relax here, the hosts are very accommodating and friendly and one feels like family within hours of arriving.

Will definitely return by

What a beautiful spot, away from the maddening crowd. Loved sitting on the stoep and watching the birdlife on the dam right on our doorstep, a birder's dream. The cottage is comfortable and has all the basic necessities. We will definitely return for a longer visit.
