Have a wonderful stay in a cosy gabled house, tucked away against the hillside between gigantic oak and blue gum trees with breathtaking views of the mountainous surroundings. This restored farm house offers four individually decorated en-suite double rooms with an idyllic country style.

Each of the spacious rooms have all the luxuries one would expect of an elite establishment, complemented with the comforting pleasures of DStv, crisp percale linen, separate tub and shower, and lots of little extras. Underfloor heating, log fires in some rooms, and overhead fans ensure your comfort year round.

Enjoy a bountiful country breakfast on the patio during the warm season surrounded by the breathtaking views of vastness, or inside by a roaring log fire when you visit us during winter. Safe parking in front of the units behind electric fence and electronic gate is provided and all rooms have private entrances.

The room was dusty and not recently cleaned. They were clueless about our reservation and the fact that we paid in full, months ago. Although we booked for supper, the chef was off for the weekend and we had to go to bed without food.

Hospitable and tranquil by

Visiting Volksrust for business, Smallkloof was exactly what we needed - very comfortable, clean rooms with all the necessary ammenities; great food and great service. Thank you to Mark the Chef, who looked after us very well!

Perfect Stay by

My wife and I have never travelled to this part of South Africa before, but were going to be in the area for a wedding. We booked 3 nights at Smalkloof Guest House and loved it so much that we've decided to visit the area again next year.

The owners were very hospitable and the room was more than what we expected, extremely comfortable with our own private entrance. The breakfasts are extremely filling and lots of variety. We ordered in supper on the last night and were treated properly by the chef, Ronald, to a 3 course meal.

If you're visiting Volksrust OR Wakkerstroom I'd recommend Smalkloof.

We were blown away by this guesthouse! Such a pleasure to not want for anything, our unit was super well equipped with complementary filter coffee, rusks and a plunger! The unit itself was finished off really well and very neat and tidy.
