Find solitude in a landscape that is still wild and untouched. Calling 100 000 hectares of game reserve home, of which 35 000 hectares are wetlands, the Sobhengu Lodge offers a unique eco-experience. Guests are accommodated in luxurious lodges, inconspicuously nestled amidst the trees of the dense Nibela Sand Forest, and connected to the main lodge via raised wooden walkways that meander through the forest. The game reserve is stocked with a variety of small game, rich in butterfly and bird life, and boasts fossil beds of sea shells, clams, ammonites as well as giant shark teeth dating back over 60 million years.

SOBHENGU LODGE REVIEWS (73 %) Nature lover's dream by Francois Le Roux, South Africa 08 April 2013 This is a remote lodge in spectacular natural surroundings, with breathtaking views of the St. Lucia wetlands. You have to see it from this point to really appreciate the size, scale and beauty of the lake - in my opinion much more spectacular from here than from the Isimangiliso Wetlands Park at St. Lucia town. I saw some negative comments on the gravel road leading to the lodge entrance- however if you are accustomed to travelling on a typical SA gravel road, you will find this to be no problem whatsoever (You will need a vehicle with sufficient ground clearance to travel on a forest track to your unit though, alternatively walk on the wooden walkways connecting it all - fun!) Guests have access to all the facilities of the adjacent Nibela Lodge, situated in the forest, with a bar deck, lounge and dining area looking out towards the lake. Staff is exceptionally friendly. This is a dream destination for any nature lover, or if you enjoy getting away from it all. The little bit of effort travelling there is well worth it. Don't miss this if you like a lodge in a big, dense forest. Piece of paradise by Robert Morley, South Africa 09 November 2014 Our second visit. Management and staff very attentive. Lucky was a patient and friendly guide on quad bikes and boat. Housekeeper very proud of her chalet and kept neat and tidy. We hope to be back. Dissapointing experience by Ludmilla Grobler, South Africa 04 May 2015 We visited in May 2015 Sobhengu Lodge with family and friends from overseas and it was truly disappointing experience! Lodge is highly overrated and needs serious maintenance! On second day we had almost no food left due to numerous ants in the lodge and all around, shower in our room was blocked, towels were not fresh and not properly washed; swimming pool wasn't properly cleaned and water was more cloudy then fresh and clean. We expected more activities but were told that due to low rain this year there is no boat trips and other activities which are still on website widely advertised. We wont recommend to stay there to any of our friends! We also were overcharged twice for drinks and it looks like management really doesn't care what is happening in their operation!
