Springfontein offers the tranquillity of an old-style working farm, in Stanford, far from the hustle and bustle of the madding crowd.

The bed and breakfast comprises of two guest cottages, and three guest suites. The Fisherman's Cottage is a tiny historic cottage with an en-suite bathroom and all the other rooms and the Milkwood Cottage are spacious with airy bathrooms. The abode also offers guests a swimming pool, a restaurant and parking on the premises.

Stanford has many great attractions in and around the area, including the Platbos Indigenous Forest, the Salmonsdam Nature Reserve and the Baardskeerdersbos Art Route.

From the moment we got there, we got the impression that we were in the way/unwelcome. There seem to be no management around and the chef hurriedly pointed us to our cottage. When we later walked up to restaurant to enquire about the menu for the evening we were abruptly told it's not available yet (not by chef, but looked like someone in charge this time) & an obvious unwillingness to engage with us. Luckily we found a great restaurant in town that we went to during our stay in Stanford. Our welcome letter mentioned an alarm in our cottage that we couldn't find. We found the staff & wine maker warm and friendly, but that will not be enough to entice us to visit Springfontein again.

Great location and the cottages are beautiful and cozy. Unfortunately the farm was entirely without water for the weekend - but the Springfontein team made alternative arrangements for us.
