Campsites at the Sterland Caravan Park, located 1 km outside Sutherland, offer a typical farm atmosphere under the vast star-studded night sky. Seven stands are available, with electricity and a clean ablution block. You are welcome to camp with a tent/trailer/caravan. There are no chalets at the camping site.

The stands are nicely laid between the Chinese poplars and Soutbos. The surface is gravel, and is ideal for camping. On the side of the premises is a Muisbos enclosure, two metres high, with a braai area in the centre with surrounding lights and a electrical plug. Each stand also has a separate braai area.

The ablution block has a scullery in the centre, with the ladies shower and toilet on the one side and gents on the other side. The ablution block is serviced every morning and washing lines are available. Wood can be obtained at the local shops in town.
A splash pool is available for those warm summer days.
We run our own private stargazing with six telescopes at the campsite every night - booking is essential.

The owners are very friendly and welcoming. The bathrooms are always neat, there is always hot water. Their new communal swimming pool is great for relaxing in the sun. Communal braai area is also very pleasant. Thank you so much Sterland!

Unforeseen costs: The quote excluded the star gazing session although the original request was for camping and stargazing.

The stands were well protected from the wind and the road to town just next to the park. It was very peaceful and so close to town, but you did not even notice that. A very convenient stay over if you want to visit SALT and explore Sutherland.

The camp site & its facilities were clean, comfortable and we felt safe. Camp Site was nicely situated to pop into the town and get to the Observatory. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the Stars were amazing & appreciated Jurg's knowledge that he shared with us.
