Stuurmansfontein Corbelled House is situated near Carnarvon in the Karoo and has been restored to its former glory to provide guests with an experience of the way life was over 200 years ago. This National Monument offers guests three bedrooms; two furnished with double beds and the other room with two single beds.
The shared bathroom features a large wash basin for bathing and water needs to be boiled for hot water, while the outdoors shower only has cold water. Water is pumped from the fountain to the house with the use of a "windpomp" and the house has a modern flush toilet, as well as a long-drop away from the house. The kitchen is fully equipped, with a Dover stove and a gas fridge and stove. Guests can also relax in the lounge and enjoy the old world feel of the Corbelled House or do their cooking or have a barbecue in the asbosskerm, which is only found in the Karoo.
The Corbelled House is available for self-catering or bed and breakfast and dinner is available on request. Situated on a farm, guests have wide open space to go for walks or cycle along the paths, while the lack of electricity ensures that guests will enjoy beautiful starry nights. For absolute peace, tranquility and security, no better retreat will be found than Stuurmansfontein Corbelled House.
