Sun Cottage is a charming thatched cottage nestled in the farmlands of the Eastern Free State Highlands and overlooking the majestic Maluti Mountains. It is situated on a working organic farm. Sun Cottage is quiet and peaceful, and it is set in its own secluded garden. We will show you around the farm and explain the concepts of organic farming with garlic, sheep, pigs, chickens, earthworms and bees.

The cottage has spectacular, ever-changing views of the mountains and it is self-catering with a fully-equipped kitchen. There is a cosy fireplace in the open-plan living room and you can relax and enjoy the scenic braai area. We are a short and spectacular drive from Clarens and Golden Gate. Lesotho and the ski slopes are also close by. There are lots of things to do and see in the area and we will gladly help you organise your activities.

A very relaxing cottage with the most beautiful view. A perfect place to get away from the buzz and have a good rest.



4 1/2 stars. Excellent accommodation. Fully-equipped and very secure.
Friendly dogs.
Stunning fireplace with lots of wood.

We enjoyed our stay, view, fire place and dog BUT: 1. No Name Sign on main road at turn off. 2. Dirt road in bad condition for a normal car (middle man and hobbles to high). 3. No proper storage space in kitchen for groceries. 4. Fridge - photo on web page misleading - too small and no space for bottles (space in door - broken). Only 2 shelves. 5. Steps inside cottage not visible in photo on web, not of normal height (friend 58yrs old, walking with crutches and had to move up and down between living area and bathroom/bedroom. 6. 1 x Cupboard and dressing table was full of extra linen. We couldn't unpack on day of arrival. Only the next afternoon after we asked the host, she came and remove stuff. 7. Place and carpets not properly cleaned - very dusty. During our stay of 5 nights, after asking, cottage was only cleaned once. After asking, I was informed they service the cottage only after departure. 8. After indicating that we are 3 adults, 2 F and 1 M sleeping seperately, the accommodation was not really suitable. The sleeper couch wasn't made up and no proper instructions were given. It was only mentioned that we had to put a wooden sheet under the mattress (MATRESS VERY THIN). An extra rolled mattress was supplied but so heavy, we couldn't lift it. All bedding was next to the couch in a plastic zipper bag. 9. Curtains in bad status - not hooked properly - looks untidy. 10. NO proper safe parking for vehicle. 11. Toilet door doesn't close. Have to use key everytime.

Thank you for your feedback. We always appreciate hearing from our guests.

I have noted and will attend to the toilet door, curtain hooks, sign post & fridge rack, thank you. The fridge is the same one we have always had in the cottage so it definitely is the one in the online photo!

I make every effort to only advertise what is available:
The Sun Cottage website does not say that it is disabled friendly?
Nor that it is serviced.
I do not advertise lock-up parking.
The description clearly says, ?one bedroom...and a sleeper couch in the open plan lounge-kitchen? This implies a communal area that can be used as a sleeping area - with a sleeper couch that is not made up as it is used as a couch during the day.
As advertised we are on a farm so there is a dust road. I use the road with my Mazda sedan.

The carpets and floors were most definitely cleaned on the day of your arrival and midway through your stay. Please remember that August is a windy, dusty month in the Free State!

If you had brought your problems to me at the time of your stay, I could have moved the linen earlier, helped with the sleeper couch and dealt with any other concerns you had at the time.

We are, however, glad that you enjoyed your stay and our beautiful view despite the points you outline above.
