The name Thandabantu translates as ?the man who loves people? in the indigenous languages of the area and is synonymous with the owners of the Lodge. Thandabantu Game Lodge was established in 2010 when two best friends ? Michael Smal and Manie du Plessis ? purchased a tree hundred hector farm in the Roossenekal area.
The only building on this farm was a double storey wooden house. Originally they used it for weekend get-a-ways but soon realised that they needed to share this unique beauty and serenity with more people. And so their dream of a Lodge became a reality. Building a lodge in the bush was no easy task. Building it on a hill with such stunning views made it a challenge. The building of the Restaurant, Deck, Swimming Pools, Chalets and Staff Housing took close to eighteen months and required substantial investments.
The more people visited the Lodge, the greater the demand became for additional facilities for meetings, conferences as well as for weddings. A large reception hall was built adjacent the bar and restaurant area. Further up the hill, a Chapel was built specifically to accommodate all the wedding enquiries. Currently, the Lodge consists of 12 - four sleeper chalets, 2 - eight sleeper large family chalets, the original wooden house with various rooms, two swimming pools, a Jacuzzi, restaurant, bar, reception area and Chapel.
