The Farm Bathurst is situated between Grahamstown and Bathurst in the Eastern Cape and offers peaceful farm-style holidays or weekend getaways. Accommodation is provided in two self-catering units, namely Die Erf Too and Acacia Cottage. Escape to a tranquil and peaceful farm environment and let us help you relax and switch off to the world. The Farm Bathurst was established around 1822 and has a wide variety of wild animals that roam freely, just like they would in their natural habitat, with approximately 125 hectares of space to their beck and call. The grass veld and acacia trees are in abundance and provide grazing for the animals.

We are particularly proud of our two giraffe, male and female, who have over time become quite accustomed to humans and will let you within 30 m of them before moving off. Other animals on the farm include black wildebeest, impala, springbok, blesbok, red hartebeest, mountain reedbuck, duiker, and grysbok. We were also fortunate to have the golden mongoose and mountain tortoise relocated here after being rescued, and at last count we saw 44 mountain tortoise and nine golden mongoose making the farm their home.

This is also a bird-lover's paradise and there are various resident ducks on the dam. Spoonbills and spurwing geese are regular visitors and other species include kori bustards, blue cranes and if you are lucky you will see a pair of secretary birds. A variety of small birds visit the bird feeders situated at the two houses, and we ask that you fill the bird feeders with the bird seed provided, and feed the duck at Die Erf.

Die Erf Too is two-bedroom brick house with a large verandah overlooking a dam and Acacia Cottage is a smaller wooden cottage with two bedrooms. Each unit features a fully equipped kitchen with a microwave, fridge and all cutlery and crockery. Bedding and towels are also provided.

Other activities include quad-biking on the farm by arrangement, canoeing on the farm dam and mountain biking, and there are plenty of board games should it be a bit cold or wet outside. Longholm Country Estate, within walking distance, offers a pool and a pub with dart boards and pool tables to entertain the young at heart and a pub for the thirsty. A short drive away is the Pig and Whistle in Bathurst that boasts to be the oldest licensed pub in the country. Guests could also visit the world's largest pineapple in Bathurst and learn all about pineapples and more.

Lovely farm with very friendly donkeys and giraffes. The best equipped kitchen I've seen in a while!

FANTASTIC STAY AT THE FARM by

What a treat it was to stay at The Farm !  Our first morning we awoke to the majestic presence of JR the giraffe......just metres away from the cabin, while enjoying a morning cup of tea. This is nature at its best.  JR awaits his morning feed at the feeding tray, while the rest of the heard (not as tame) mill around the dam.  This experience is a really special one and is an added benefit to your stay.  Together with the giraffes, you will be treated to extremely tame donkeys as well as an Nyala bull and two females. Who needs a game drive when this is right at your doorstep - literally!  JR also joined us for our sun downers and evening braais !  A very comfortable and happy stay was had and I would recommend this to anyone who is a nature lover ! Close to most major centres like Grahamstown and Port Alfred, gives a person the opportunity to explore and enjoy the historic surroundings.

THANK YOU Gordon for an unforgettable experience.

Regards,

Brad & Michelle Braithwaite
