The Funny Farm Shire offers a peaceful country retreat, situated next to the wetlands of the Garden Route National Park, overlooking Langvlei Lake. This eight hectare farm offers comfortable accommodation in two cottages resonating The Lord of the Rings theme in the buildings and farm surroundings.

There are two cottages, The Homely Home and The Hobbits House. These professionally built cob houses are built with indigenous wooden window frames, doors and counters. Each house sleeps four people, is fully equipped for self-catering, and is enclosed with a fence and gate, making it ideal for families with children or pets.

The farm has a forest walk for the young ones where they can explore Gollum's Den, or make a wish at Gandalf's Wishing Well. Guest can explore the eight hectares of elevated, thick indigenous forest and beautiful views of the lakes below.

Great winter break by

we had a great time in this cottage and farm.Had some magical runs on dirt road around the lakes while our dogs enjoyed the secure farm..Jeanne enjoyed the bird hide ( 400 m from cottage) and the fireplace was very welcome for the chilly nights

Warm and friendly welcome from hosts Tessa and Russell, and cottage was clean, well organised and very comfortable in very secluded yet accessible location close to Wilderness

Peace and serenity by

We loved staying in this pretty cottage! Such a beautiful place, everything out of wood, decorated with so much care.. and then all you find around is peaceful nature with its relaxing sounds. Tessa and Russel were amazing hosts and super helpful, giving us advices on where to go/hike/ eat and swim.. Wilderness, the area, is great for all kinds of nature-lovers. This place is the perfect getaway from town - no matter if in winter or summer. We very much hope we will have a chance to come back.

Gorgeous house by

Loved our stay in the Hobbit House. Immaculately clean, quaint and had everything we needed. Lots of interesting little features including a mini stairway up to a cat flap. Have fallen in love with cob houses! Peaceful setting with lovely walk right from the house. Our girls (10 and 12) enjoyed every minute of it too. Perfect if you need a self-catering that takes dogs as it is secure and few neighbours to bother. Also suitable for two or three families who want to stay in the same area but have their own space. Would highly recommend.
