The Prynnsberg EstateClocolan, Free State, South Africa Self-catering from R 700 (family units from R 14,700) | R 700 |
The colourful history of Prynnsberg Manor - its grand foundation, its decline and eventual save from ruin - is well documented. Partially renovated - but glorious all the same Prynnsberg is a strictly private estate and is therefore not open to walk in visitors. The eclectically appointed Manor house and Arran (the original Game Keepers Lodge) can be booked by prior arrangement with either self-catering (full household staff and cook in residence) or fully catered options.
Prynnsberg Manor takes a maximum of 20 adults in accommodation ranging from the spectacular (see the Boudoir) to the unusual (when last did you sleep on an upstairs veranda with the Southern Cross as your ceiling?), to the 'work in progress' ("mind that gilded ceiling doesn't come down in the night").
Described in architectural circles as 'The Jewel of the Eastern Free State', Prynnsberg Manor boasts a billiard room / ballroom once described by Stephan Weltz of Sotheby's as "the most beautiful room in South Africa, an outdoor cinema, a Victorian bath house (the Manor was built before en-suite bathrooms became the norm) and magnificent gardens with two swimming pools. The estate at large covers over 1,200 hectares of beautiful Eastern Free State countryside.
Arran - The Game Keepers Lodge: Arran - sleeping a max of four adults - nestles up against the mountain above the Manor house and enjoys spectacular views. Arran is fully renovated and exceedingly well appointed. Prynnsberg is ideal for classic country house weekends with family and friends, corporate or creative retreats and workshops.
